Continued Quality
To ensure continued quality in our accounting and auditing services, we joined the Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The peer review helps to monitor a CPA firm’s accounting and auditing practice (practice monitoring). The goal of the practice monitoring, and the program itself, is to promote quality in the accounting and auditing services provided by the AICPA members and their CPA firms.
As a condition of membership, firms must participate in a demanding quality control program that includes peer review of their accounting and auditing practice every three years by specially trained outside CPAs. Since our membership in 1982, the reports issued by these CPAs were unqualified; meaning quality in our accounting and auditing services met or exceeded professional standards.

Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center
To help CPAs meet the challenges of performing quality audits in this unique and complex area, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants has established the Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center, a firm-based voluntary membership center for firms that audit employee benefit plans. Employee benefit plan audits include pension, health and welfare, and 401(k) plans subject to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) under the regulatory authority of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).
Center membership is firm-based and voluntary. Members demonstrate their commitment to quality audit practices. To join, firms must adhere to the center’s membership requirements. Member firms must:
- Designate a vice president responsible for the firm’s employee benefit plan audit practice;
- Establish a firm-wide training program for the employee benefit plan audit practice;
- Establish a firm-wide quality control program that addresses the employee benefit plan audit practice;
- Perform annual internal inspection procedures that include a review of the firm’s ERISA employee benefit plan audit practice by individuals possessing current experience and knowledge; and
- Make the firm’s peer review or other practice monitoring report findings relative to the firm’s employee benefit plan area of audit practice publicly available.
Harding, Shymanski & Company, P.S.C. is proud to be a member of the Center.
